Modas Dance Continuum

Year - Round Training

Khalah Mitchell

"As a former student in the year round training program at Santa Fe University of Art and Design, I can say that there is truly something brewing within this program. Everyday I am immersed in challenging yet refreshing dance technique classes, surrounded by a group of talented and eager artists that feel like family. I have already learned in one semester an extraordinary amount of information to help further myself in a healthy dance career, as well as a healthy and vigorous life path. " - 2016

Now Enrolling!

Fall Semester - August 13, 2018 - December 14, 2018

Spring Semester - January 7, 2019 - May 10, 2019

The Modas Dance Training Program is designed to cultivate well rounded, professional dance artists through a progressive, intense, and diverse curriculum. Unique in its approach, MDTP provides high quality training in performance, choreographic and artistic direction, as well as business and entrepreneurial development, with a distinguished national and international dance faculty. The goal of MDTP is to foster young artists through development, independent thinking, and rigorous investigation to discover and refine each individual’s artistic aspirations, thereby strengthening their artistic contributions to the field.

The training program is a one to two-year experience for pre-professional dancers from the age of 16 and up. Weekly curriculum includes ballet, pointe, modern, contemporary, jazz, cross-training, Countertechnique®, and repertory. Supplemental classes in composition, improvisation and anatomy are offered regularly throughout each semester. Students will also participate in workshops focused on professional preparation, business and entrepreneurial development. Through 2 semesters, over 30 hours of training per week, and performance opportunities throughout the year, the MDTP participants will obtain the experience and knowledge necessary to thrive as a professional dance artist today.

MDTP is thrilled to have a new home at Magnify Dance Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Together, Modas Dance and Magnify Dance Center strive for excellence in training and are committed to providing the most current techniques, approaches, and professional development skills to all of their students. The faculty is fully invested in each individual student, their journey to self-discovery of their unique artistic voice, and reaching their fullest potential.

Our vision is to be the premiere pre-professional training facility for classical ballet and contemporary dance in the state of New Mexico. The desire of each of our Faculty is to instil the skills and demeanour necessary for each of our dancers to achieve their goals. We desire to see our graduates move on to dance companies & college dance programs and/or remain avid dance lovers and supporters throughout their lives.

Featuring Countertechnique®

Countertechnique® provides tools for body and mind to deal with the demanding dance practice of the 21st century. It is a movement system to help the dancer think about the dancing body, focusing on the process of incorporating information into action.

Within a clear structure of exercises, the Countertechnique® class thoroughly prepares the body for rehearsal and performance, enabling dancers to move bigger, more fluidly and more spatially, while becoming stronger and more flexible. Dancers are encouraged to be pro-active in discovering connections and solutions, to be less concerned with judging themselves and to work in a healthy way with regard to body and mind.

Countertechnique® makes daily training a valuable investment in the dancer’s own development, as well as interesting personal research.

Countertechnique® was created and developed by Dutch choreographer, dancer and teacher Anouk van Dijk, currently artistic director of Australian dance company Chunky Move.
