See Your Dancer Shine!

Showcase 2021

Our next spring showcase will take place on Friday & Saturday, May 21 & 22, 2021. Our title will be, The Carnival of the Animals.

Please see all UPDATED information below!

Dancing on stage will be a moment to treasure for each and every dancer. Artistry is something very important to us at Magnify, as we guide your dancer along their dance journey.

For our Primary, Junior and Level 1 & 2 Conservatory dancers, Showcase gives the opportunity to take choreography created and learned in class and turn it into an inspiring and entertaining show! This year’s dances will reflect the joy, delight and beauty found all around us. Participation is open to all aforementioned MDC dancers, with the exception of our Mommy+Me students, though every MDC dancer is encouraged to attend the show they will be sure to enjoy!

Ongoing! Our Magnify Mentorship Program, launched in 2020 and continues to provide our upper level dancers will have the opportunity to mentor younger dancers throughout every aspect of the production preparation and performance process. Upper level dancers will receive invaluable experience in all aspects of performance preparation while they maintain their own performance experience through our Ensemble Company season of Christmas Joy & our spring show.

We are very excited to be able to present a scaled-down version of our end-of-year Showcase. Our dancers have worked so hard this year, and we look forward to a crowning event to close out the school year. Showcase will be presented onstage in the Citizen Church Main Auditorium. This large auditorium and stage will allow for a socially-distanced performance, abiding by current occupancy and mask mandates.

Participating classes will be: Primary 1, Primary 2, Primary 3, Mini Movers, Junior 1 & 2 Ballet, Junior Jazz, Conservatory 1 Ballet & Jazz, and Conservatory 2 Ballet & Jazz.

PARTICIPATING DANCERS:

1.    Consult the “Costuming Needed” document to find your Showcase dance title and number, based off your class day/time. Here you will also see what costuming items your dancer needs to wear for the show. Each dancer has a basic need of required dancewear, which will be supplemented with other costuming/props provided at the theater.

2.    Make sure you have all the necessary items needed for your costume. We always desire and appreciate it when dancers look their best for showtime. Tights with holes and super dirty shoes are unsightly. This may be a great time to invest in some “fresh” dancewear for your performer! Please, NO panties under tights. Dancers tights serve as their undergarment. Seeing underwear onstage is not attractive.

3.    After confirming your dance name/number, consult the Dress Rehearsal Call Time document to ascertain what time your dancer must be present for our one and only stage practice time.

4. MAKEUP/HAIR: We recommend that all dancers wear light makeup, as stage lights are bright and wash out the features/facial expressions of those performing. Since dancers will be wearing masks, only eye makeup will be necessary. For our youngest Primary dancers, we recommend light mascara and possibly eyebrow pencil, for those who are more fair complected. For Conservatory/Junior dancers, we recommend light eyeshadow as well as mascara, and possibly eyebrow pencil, for those who are more fair complected. Here's a great tutorial from another studio we came across, and we recommend the same techniques! https://www.districtdanceco.com/makeup/

For those whose dance requires a "ballet bun," please make sure hair is pulled tight, with no "wispies," and use plenty of pins/hairspray to secure. For those who need a "half up/half down with curls," please pull the hair back from just above the ears and secure at the crown of the head. It's best to pull back more hair than less, since stage lighting can cast shadows when more hair is loose. We encourage curls so hair has body and doesn't look limp. Plenty of hairspray helps here, too!

As always, we are here for you for any questions you may have! Let us know how we can help!

ATTENDANCE:

All classes will be in full swing of rehearsing and preparing, so please make every effort to keep good attendance, barring any sickness. Dancers with the most consistent practice will have the confidence and muscle memory to perform their best. Let’s make sure all our dancers are fully equipped!

TICKETS:

Online ticket sales will begin April 22. Tickets are $12.50, general admission.

Dancing on stage will be a moment to treasure for each and every dancer.
