Magnify Dance Ensemble (formerly The Performers Ballet & Jazz Company) was founded in 1981 by Karen Alwin. Her vision for the company was to set a standard of excellence in the training and opportunities provided to young dancers. In 1984, together with Lynn Crawford Cox, Ms. Karen started Christmas Joy, which, in its spectacular telling of the Christmas story, has become an Albuquerque tradition, celebrating more than 35 years of performances with over 600 alumni. Over her years as Director, Ms. Karen added programming to include community service for all dancers, intensives and workshops for added training and other performing opportunities. Our goal is that her vision and love for dance lives on for years to come!

In 2009, Ms. Karen passed the torch of leadership to Wendy Miner who became the new Artistic Director. This transition of leadership was with Ms. Karen's blessing and encouragement to keep the company moving and growing to and for the next generation. In her 10+years as Artistic Director, Wendy continued the standards for the company which made it so exceptional. She added much additional repertoire to the company with numerous choreographic additions to Christmas Joy, mixed rep performances including First Impressions and Spring Gala and the much celebrated full-length production of How Love Wins.
In 2020, our leadership changed once again to bring on Andrea Basile as Artistic Director. Wendy Miner remains with the company as Executive Director. Their natural partnership was grown of years dancing together as students and friends, under Karen Alwin. After a celebrated dance career of 20+ years in San Francisco, Andrea has returned home to her roots, where she has and will continue to fully invest in the next generation of dancers and artists, contributing to their training, growth and success.
Magnify Dance Ensemble is a community and a family with a legacy of rich history and an exciting future ahead.
